Health and Human Services

The Department of Health and Human Services is divided into three programs:

1. Community Action Agency

“The Community Action Agency (CAA), with offices in Covington and Slidell, provides a number of services to St. Tammany Parish residents including emergency utility, rental and mortgage assistance. The CAA also works with homeless and near-homeless families transitioning from homelessness to help them become self-sustaining.”

“The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Housing program partners with nonprofit organizations to provide housing services to the residents of St. Tammany Parish.”

“The Public Health (PH) program works with nonprofit organizations to provide wellness, behavioral health, and suicide prevention services to the residents of St. Tammany Parish.”

Inspections

“The mission of the Inspections and Enforcement Department is to serve the people of St. Tammany Parish by providing for the public’s health, welfare and safety through the enforcement of building codes and ordinances adopted by state and local governing agencies.”

“The Public Information Office handles all media inquiries, and is the primary disseminator relevant Parish Government information. During an emergency, the PIO shares important information with our residents regarding public safety, emergency operations, the status of the event, possible hazards to the public at-large, and when the all-clear is given.”
